The Scoop: Just Announced: Once again, the Arnold Sports Festival takes its show on the road. Originated in North America in Columbus, Ohio, the sports extravaganza's next stop is South America. This adds another competition to the IFBB Pro League contest schedule in 2013, in the form of the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Brazil (Brasil), following the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding" -- Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in September.
"We are very excited to take the Arnold Sports Festival model to South America in 2013," says co-promoter Jim Lorimer. "The creation of the first Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid in October 2012 proved that there was great demand worldwide for the Arnold Sports Festival concept, and we look forward to continuing our globalization efforts in Rio de Janeiro next year."
The "So What?": As reported in MUSCLE INK Magazine's "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Arnold Classic Brazil (Brasil) is a joint venture between former California Governor and 7-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger; Arnold Sports Festival co-promoter Lorimer; International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) president Rafael Santonja; and Savaget Promotions of Sao Paulo, Brazil (Brasil).
Partnering with the annual Rio Sports Show, the first-ever Arnold Classic Brasil Sports Festival will be held May 10-12 in Rio de Janeiro and will feature a complete lineup of bodybuilding, physique, fitness, sports, strength and athletic events for IFBB Pro League athletes, WSM World's Strongest Man strongman contenders, weightlifting competitors, and powerlifting athletes. The festival also features a heath and fitness expo and a "Fight Pavilion" with the latest in mixed martial arts (MMA) and other combat sports.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Along with the Brazilian edition of the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships and other recent additions -- such as, the Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, Spain, and the IFBB Pro Prague Pro Bodybuilding Championships (which bolster the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System) -- the growth of the international bodybuilding market seems to be exploding, due, in part, to "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger (star of "Terminator,"' "Conan the Barbarian" and "Pumping Iron") and his retirement from politics, which opens more time to focus on his fitness/sports, entertainment and Hollywood movie projects.
