Ultra Marathon Man Dean Karnazes Sets Off
to Run from California to NYC in 75 Days! This may be Dean Karnazes's greatest feat yet.
And that's saying a lot. By now, there's probably nothing left to occupy the realm of the physically impossible for
Dean Karnazes when it comes to
long-distance running. In recent years, we've seen him run 50 marathons in 50 states over the course of 50 consecutive days. We've seen him run a 200-mile relay race, solo, alongside competing teams of twelve runners. We've seen him set up a treadmill in Times Square and run the equivalent of five marathons in 24 hours.
And now this: On the morning of Friday, February 25th, Dean Karnazes stood at a starting line outside Cinderella's Castle in Disneyland's Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, California. Then, cheered on by a large crowd of well-wishers as well as a TV audience of millions on
Live! With Regis and Kelly, he waved to the crowd. Kelly Ripa did a countdown and Dean set off at his typical brisk pace.
His destination? The New York City studios of Live! With Regis and Kelly, where Regis Philbin will be waiting for him 75 days from now. In the interval,
Dean will traverse 17 states plus the District of Columbia, a distance of almost 3,000 miles across a wide range of challenging terrains and elevations, in all kinds of weather. To accomplish this astonishing task, Dean expects to spend 14 hours per day covering 50 miles each day. It is, in short, an unprecedented feat, even for a man who once ran from St. Louis to New York.

We talk to Dean quite a bit here at ProSource, usually when he's looking to refill his supplies of his two favorite
Supreme Protein bars flavors, Caramel Nut Chocolate and Peanut Butter Crunch. We know that Dean has plenty of both flavors stocked in his support trailer for the run. As he's said in the past, "With my energy requirements, I'm a big believer in premium-quality supplements. I'm a big believer in
Supreme Protein bars, which I use exclusively during training. Supreme Protein bars ensure I get enough protein for optimal recovery from training."
We also know that this
California-to-New York City run means a lot to Dean because it was organized to benefit one of Dean's favorite charities, Action for Healthy Kids. Cities along his route will host "Run with Dean" 5K events and raise money that goes to benefit
Action for Healthy Kids, which works to combat obesity in children.
When we last tracked Dean's position, on Friday afternoon, he was entering Corona, California, 23 1/2 miles into his run. Only 2,975 miles to go. Be sure to follow
Dean's exploits at his blog and catch Dean's appearance on
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (airing Friday night)!
