Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's WWE Pro Athletes Roundup, IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Recently Reported: WWE and IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes a pro wrestling star in Florida who is fighting to expand his career from WWE to UFC, and a rising bodybuilding pro in France who is fighting for recognition in the IFBB.
The "So What?":
Over the weekend, WWE Superstar Dave Bautista (Batista) happened to pop in on the end of the Shawn Ray Muscle Camp (attended by IFBB Pro Jason Huh) at the Powerhouse Gym in Tampa, Florida, which was celebrating its 2nd anniversary. The recently retired, 6-time World Wrestling Entertainment Champion resides in the area and regularly visits the gym. The 6'6", 290-pound beast is pursuing MMA fighting and operates a Gracie Fighter Jiu-Jitsu fighting school. About his own prospects in the combat sport of mixed martial arts, Bautista says, "I think I'll do okay. I started late in this game. I'm 42, but I still really have the itch [to fight], because I'm a martial artist at heart. So I just want to compete a few times, not to make a career out of it...so I don't have to live my life with regret, and be 50 years old, and say, 'Man, I wish I would have' [competed]."
In bodybuilding contract news: IFBB Pro Jose Raymond signed a media contract with the company that also recently signed IFBB Pro
Hidetada Yamagishi and is the long-time home of IFBB Pro Branch Warren. IFBB Pro Lionel Beyeke signed an exclusive media deal
with the company that was the long-time home of 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," a week and a half ago, Raymond won the 202 Division at the New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships, where Beyeke made an impression on those in attendance who feel he should have placed a spot higher than his 4th place award in the Open Division. An IFBB Pro League rookie, 30-year-old Beyeke finished in 6th place at the 2010 Phoenix Pro Bodybuilding Championships before wowing the crowd in NYC this year.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Currently residing in France, Lionel Beyeke is prepping for the upcoming Toronto Pro Bodybuilding Championships (June 18), which may be his last chance to shine this year since he reportedly intends to skip the 2011 edition of the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding" at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas (September 16). The 2008 NABBA Mr. Universe, Beyeke accepted his IFBB Pro card after placing 2nd to eventual IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar at the 2009 Arnold Amateur Championships at the Arnold Sports Festival, host of the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships.
It's an exciting time for Dave Bautista, a former Wrestlemania headliner and the longest-reigning World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history, who is now actively pursuing his movie-acting career...which I will address in my upcoming MUSCLE INK Magazine feature titled "Headlock on Hollywood," about wrestlers-turned-actors, such as Bautista, "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson, John Cena and others. Bautista stars in a martial arts action movie that will premiere next year.
