The Item: Strongman Competition, Strength Sports, Contest Results, Andrew Oye's Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: Pro Strongman Brian Shaw overshadowed his competition in Las Vegas, winning the 2013 America's Strongest Man contest, and unseating the defending 2012 ASM Champion Mike Burke.
2013 America's Strongest Man Final Results
1. Brian Shaw (2013 World's Strongest Man)
2. Robert Oberst (2012 ASM 3rd place)
3. Dimitar Savatinov (former Ringling Bros strongman)

The remaining field of competitors included: Derek DeVaugn, Heath Allison, Mike Caruso, Grant Higa, Tomes Rodriquez, Matt Dawson, Mike Burke, Carl Foemel, Marshall White, Andrew Palmer, Mike Jenkins, Jacob Bodi, Eric Dawson, Bradford Dunn, and Nick Best, who, along with his wife Callie and kids, appeared on the "My Crazy Obsession - World's Strongest Family" TV show this year.

The "So What?": This marked the fifth year that the American Strongman Corporation hosted its America's Strongest Man event as part of the Olympia Weekend (where IFBB Pro Phil Heath took the Mr. Olympia title in the culmination of the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series).

As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Pro Strongman Brian Shaw went to Vegas on the heels of his victory at the World's Strongest Man (airing on CBS Sports Network) in Sanya, China (where Shaw's training partners Mike Jenkins and Mike Burke placed 4th and 5th, respectively). At the ASM contest, Shaw won four of eight events, was the only athlete to complete the Atlas Stones event, and was commended for his sportsmanship. Unfortunately, Burke suffered a finger injury and Jenkins got a case of food poisoning during qualifying rounds

At the Olympia Expo, competitors were tested in a series of events, including the 750-Pound Deadlift, the Giant Farmers Walk, the Keg Clean and Press Medley, the Atlas Stone Carry and Load, the Super Yoke, the Max Clean and Log Press, the Medley, and the Giant Wheel Barrow Load and Carry (a new event at ASM and the Olympia).

Andrew Oye's Verdict: At 6' 8", 420 pounds, Brian Shaw is wowing the strength-sports industry not only with his massive stature and displays of strength, but he is also racking up quite an impressive record. Reportedly, Shaw is the only American strongman, thus far, to win the World's Strongest Man title, the America's Strongest Man title and the Arnold Strongman Classic title at IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger's Arnold Sports Festival (where IFBB Pro Branch Warren won the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championships).
