Career Updates, IFBB Pro League Legends Update, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Just Announced: The legendary 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman signed a new media contract. According to the official announcement, the man who redefined the limits of muscularity and "changed the sport forever" will supply a monthly magazine column that launches next month.
The "So What?":
Considered by some bodybuilding followers to be one of the most impressive Mr. Olympia champions in IFBB Pro League history, Ronnie Coleman joins a top-heavy team of other IFBB Pro League athletes with this signing, including another greatest-of-all-time nominee with a record eight Mr. Olympia titles -- IFBB Pro Lee Haney, along with 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, and 4-time and reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler.
As reported in MUSCLE INK Magazine's "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Ronnie Coleman earned his IFBB Pro card by winning the Heavyweight Class at the 1991 IFBB World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships in Poland. The former collegiate football player racked up a resume of 26 professional bodybuilding contest wins between 1991 and 2007, including the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold
Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in 2001 and, of course, his dominance at the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding" -- Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend Mr. Olympia Championships, where collected eight consecutive Sandow trophies between 1998 and 2005.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
I recently reported that the promoter of the upcoming IFBB Pro World Masters Bodybuilding Championships (scheduled for December 10, 2011, in Miami, Florida) announced Ronnie Coleman's potential participation in the event -- as a guest poser not a competitor, despite the hopes of diehard fans. (Other World Masters invitees: guests first-ever Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Larry Scott, 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Frank Zane, TV's "Incredible Hulk" and IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno, as well as guest-posers Masters Olympia Champion IFBB Pro Robby Robinson and IFBB Pro Andy Haman) With never-ending speculation about of reemerging from retirement and an unfading visibility on the bodybuilding scene at fitness events, Coleman's legacy continues to flex its relevance.
