Legends Update, Fitness Industry News, Tribute to a Champion, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Recently Reported: Action-movie star, former California Governor and legendary 7-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger paid tribute to Jack LaLanne at the memorial service of the late fitness pioneer this week (February 1).
According to Hollywood publication THR, "Schwarzenegger compared the TV personality to leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr., saying he was a 'true saint' who helped millions of people remain healthy."
The "So What?":
Host of "The Jack LaLanne Show" from 1951 to 1985 and winner of the 1955 Mr. America title, LaLanne is considered by many to be one of the fathers of the modern physical-fitness crusade. He passed away on January 23, 2011, in Morro Bay, California, at the ripe age of 96. THR reports, "The cause of death was respiratory failure resulting from pneumonia."
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
It's a moving notion -- one icon of physical health honoring the memory of another just one month away from one of the world's largest celebrations of sports and fitness, the Arnold Sports Festival (March 5). LaLanne's legacy lives on through the efforts of those like Schwarzenegger. Along with Joe Weider, LaLanne paved the way for many of the IFBB Pro
League athletes featured in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" who
compete ay prestigious fitness events like the
Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championships and Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (which has been won by IFBB Pro Larry Scott, IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Franco Columbu, IFBB Pro Samir Bannout, IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson and IFBB Pro Jay Cutler).
