The Item: Legends Update, Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: Over the weekend, actor and retired IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno was the featured guest speaker at the 5th Annual Athens Chamber of Commerce Benefit Dinner in Athens, Tennessee. The hearing-impaired, former star of the TV series "The Incredible Hulk" often travels as a motivational speaker discussing overcoming adversity at events around the world.

The "So What?": Beyond his speaking engagements, Lou Ferrigno remains active in the bodybuilding industry. In March, the IFBB Hall of Fame member and 2-time Mr. Universe was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Ferrigno was a motivational guest speaker at East Tennessee State University in 2010.

Ferrigno competed in the Mr. Olympia Championships at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in 1974, when he finished as the 2nd place runner-up to Schwarzenegger. Their 1975 Olympia battle -- which Schwarzenegger won, IFBB Pro Serge Nubret finished in 2nd place, and Ferrigno took 3rd place -- was filmed for the renowned bodybuilding documentary "Pumping Iron." He also competed at the Olympia in 1992 and 1993 (both won by IFBB Pro Dorian Yates); had brief involvement with WWE CEO Vince McMahon's WBF World Bodybuilding Federation; and retired from physique competition after the 1994 Masters Olympia (where Ferrigno placed 2nd to winner IFBB Pro Robby Robinson).

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Next month's MUSCLE INK Magazine sports-entertainment feature will include my interview with Lou Ferrigno regarding the latest updates on his Hollywood TV and movie career. Undoubtedly, Ferrigno has taken his seat among the few IFBB Pro League athletes to increase the profile of professional bodybuilders beyond the stage on a global scale, with everything from competing in the first-ever WSM World's Strongest Man contest in 1977 (with fellow IFBB Pro Franco Columbu); to appearing on ABC Wide World of Sports; to guest-starring on a major TV network primetime sitcom; to making regular appearances at pop-culture/comic-book conventions.
