The Scoop: Just Announced: Entrepreneur and retired IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari is the recipient of the 2013 Arnold Classic Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be honored at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio (March 2), where the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships (an IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series contest) celebrates its 25th Anniversary.

The "So What?": Annually, the Arnold Sports Festival presents a Lifetime Achievement Award to an individual who has made notable contributions to the fitness/bodybuilding industry and to the enhancement of sports performance and promotion. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Rich Gaspari was honored with a life-sized portrait and a proclamation from the state of New Jersey in November 2012 for endeavors that support/promote heath, fitness and IFBB Pro League athletes.

In 1989, Rich Gaspari became the first-ever winner of the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championships (a title later won by IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone and IFBB Pro Michael Francois). Gaspari adds his name to a select list of past Arnold Classic Lifetime Achievement Award recipients: Mr. Olympia winners IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Frank Zane and IFBB Pro Franco Columbu; Ms. Olympia IFBB Pro Cory Everson; bodybuilding greats Reg Park and Bill Pearl; fit actors "Incredible Hulk" IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno and Hollywood movie star Sylvester Stallone; and fitness-industry pioneers Jack LaLanne, Joe Weider and Ben Weider, among others.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Congrats to IFBB Hall of Fame athlete Rich Gaspari, who had triple near-wins of the IFBB Pro League's highest title at the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding" -- Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend. He was a 2nd place runner-up at the Mr. Olympia contest in 1986, 1987 and 1988 in battles against 8-time winner Lee Haney. On the physique stage, Gaspari was known for his "peeled" and "ripped" high-level of conditioning. He took the dedication to physical training and poured that into his business pursuits that have helped him maintain a strong presence in the fitness industry many years after his competitive days in the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness.
