As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the 2014 Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend marked the 50th Annual Mr. Olympia Bodybuilding Championships, where reigning champion Phil Heath won his fourth Sandow trophy (and the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness honored all previous winners, including: IFBB Pro Larry Scott, IFBB Pro IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger, IFBB Pro Franco Columbu, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Samir Bannout, IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, and IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman). This year's contest aired on a live webcast and witnessed Phil Heath surpass the four-win tie he had held with IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, earning the former collegiate basketball player his fifth consecutive Olympia title. Similarly, in the Olympia 212 Showdown, reigning champion IFBB Pro Flex Lewis won his fourth back-to-back victory, breaking the three-win tie he had shared with IFBB Pro Kevin English.Andrew Oye's Verdict:
While there was some shuffling and shifting in the final placings of the 2015 Mr. Olympia contest, none of it would be classified as particularly seismic. Incumbent Phil Heath kept the throne. With the champ's the 3-time runner-up rival absent, 2008 Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson jumped three spots, which looks better for a past winner's resume as opposed to sliding further down the rankings at the sport's biggest contest, especially as he advances in age. Earlier this year, 45-year-old Jackson surpassed the four-win record he had shared with retired IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler at the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Shawn Rhoden and Dennis Wolf repeated their placings from last year. Jackson's rise opened a spot that allowed "Big Ramy" Elssbiay to hop over veteran Branch Warren ("Quadrasaurus"), who remained in the same position he occupied last year.
Winklaar made a big bump, up five spots from last year, putting a once rising star early in his career back in the Top 10. Bonac had the largest leap, rocketing seven spots to land in the Top 10. Martinez slipped one rung lower on the ladder. Obaid, who skipped last year, took the last spot in the Top 10 this year. While IFBB Pro League athletes who made Olympia debuts (Bannout, Charles, Jellali, McCarver, and Rowe) had no impact on the Top 10, a couple of the contenders who qualified but did not compete (IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan, IFBB Pro Fouad Abiad, IFBB Pro Michael Lockett, IFBB Pro Justin Compton) might have moved a few names around on the game board. Up next on the schedule, launching the next cycle of the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series (for 2016): the Arnold Sports Festival's Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, Spain.
