The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Stan McQuay stood at the top of the stack, taking 1st place at the 2011 IFBB Sacramento Pro Bodybuilding Championships in California. Taking the 2nd place spot was IFBB Pro Lyndon Belgrave. Finishing in 3rd place was IFBB Pro Fernando Noronha Almeida. The remaining field: IFBB Pro Petr Vanis (4th), IFBB Pro Angel Rangel Vargas (5th), IFBB Pro Raul Carrasco-Jimenez (6th), IFBB
Pro Shavis Higa (7th), IFBB Pro Bleau Taylor (8th), and Olympic weightlifter and IFBB Pro Amit Sapir (9th).
The "So What?": This event marked the first IFBB event to introduce the new 212 Division, formerly the 202 and Under Division. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top 3 IFBB Pro
League athletes in the 212 Division at the Sacramento Pro Championships earn Olympia qualifications to face Olympia 202/212
Showdown Champion IFBB Pro Kevin English next year at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend
in Las Vegas. In 2009, the Sacramento Pro hosted no separate 202 Class, crowning IFBB Pro Toney Freeman in the Open Division. The 2010 Sacramento Pro showcased only a 202 contest for men's bodybuilding competitors, which was won by IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson and saw McQuay finish in 3rd place.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: The Sac Pro Championships closed the IFBB Pro League contest calendar in 2010; however, this year, contests in Iowa and Miami will finish off the season before other previously reported new changes in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness take effect in 2012. The new 212 Division is one IFBB change that instantly piqued the interest of fans and athletes who want to see how it affects top contenders like IFBB Pro David Henry, IFBB Pro Jose Raymond, IFBB Pro Flex Lewis and IFBB Pro Eduardo Correa. Which competitors will benefit from the weight-limit increase, and which competitors still intend to make the leap to the unlimited Open Division with the big guys, like Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath, 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Branch Warren (winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships), and IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf?
