The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez was
victorious, winning 1st place in the Open Division at the 2014 IFBB
Tampa Pro Bodybuilding Championships. IFBB Pro William Bonac claimed the
2nd place runner-up position. Jumping a spot from last year, IFBB Pro
Moe Bannout took 3rd place. IFBB Pro Max Charles finished in 4th place,
and the 5th place contestant was (part-time powerlifter) IFBB Pro Ben
White.
The remaining field: up one spot from last year, IFBB Pro
Manuel Romero (6th), up from 11th last year IFBB Pro Bill Wilmore
(7th), IFBB Pro Manuel Lomeli (8th), IFBB Pro Pablo Zayas (9th), IFBB
Pro Kenneth Jackson (10th), IFBB Pro Rafael Jaramillo (11th), IFBB Pro
An Nguyen (12th), IFBB Pro Franklin Roberson (13th), IFBB Pro Timmy
Gaillard (14th), IFBB Pro Julius Page (15th), followed by the (16th
place) non-placing athletes: IFBB Pro Jeff Beckham, IFBB Pro Lloyd
Dollar, IFBB Pro Stephen Frazier, IFBB Pro Alexandre Nataf, IFBB Pro
Jonathan Rowe and, making his pro debut after earning an IFBB Pro card
at the 2014 NPC Team Universe Championships, IFBB Pro Rob Youells.
The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia
Qualification Series Point System (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 4
Points, 3rd - 3 Points, 4th - 2 Points, 5th - 1 Point) applies to IFBB
Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia
Weekend (September 18-21) in Las Vegas to take on reigning Mr. Olympia
IFBB Pro Phil Heath. IFBB Pro Evan Centopani won the Tampa Pro
Championships last year, but did not return to Florida this year to
defend against Victor Martinez (winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's
2007 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships
and the inaugural Arnold Classic Europe in 2011).
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Point blank, Victor Martinez needed this victory for a guaranteed slot
in the 2014 Olympia lineup. Because the Tampa Pro was the final general
Open Division contest before the "Super Bowl of Bodybuilding," he should
be grateful that he managed to scrape by and nab a ticket to the 50th
Anniversary of the Mr. Olympia Championships. Some of the competitors
who have already qualified to participate at the historic event: IFBB
Pro Justin Compton, IFBB Pro Mamdouh Elssbiay (a.k.a. "Big Ramy"), IFBB
Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo, IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden, IFBB
Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar, and IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf.
There's one more qualification opportunity at the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro
Masters Championships Pittsburgh (August 28).
