IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
: Just announced: Over the weekend, rain hit the streets of L.A., but it didn't dampen the path of IFBB Pro Silvio Samuel to a 1st place victory at the 2009 IFBB Ironman Pro Invitational Bodybuilding Championships. While IFBB Pro Moe El Moussawi out-massed the champ, he nabbed 2nd place. IFBB Pro
Ronny Rockel from Germany finished in 3rd place. IFBB Pro Hidetada
Yamagishi from Japan took 4th place. Even with his impressive washboard midsection, the man nicknamed "Abzilla," IFBB Pro Ahmad Haider, landed in 5th place.
The "So What?":
By day, the Los Angeles Convention Center played host to the L.A.
Fitness Expo, which teemed with fans seeking product samples, fitness
info and events (like powerlifting, training seminars, and game -how
castings). At night, the venue was the site of a special appearance by
6-time Ms. Olympia IFBB Pro Cory Everson. The 2009 event marked the 20th Anniversary of the Ironman Pro contest and the pro debut of Lebanon's IFBB Pro
Mohammad Bannout, cousin of 1983 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro
Samir Bannout. The only other competitor to truly nail his conditioning, Bannout finished in 7th place. So while the Olympian's relative didn't qualify to compete at the 2009 Mr. Olympia contest (to face reigning champ IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson), the Top 3 finishers earned qualifications for Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Silvio Samuel placed 5th at the 2008 Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic (won by Dexter Jackson).
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Super-sharp conditioning, or the lack thereof,
seemed to be a
factor for most of the field; so, well-balanced Silvio Samuel bounced back from his 4th place finish at this same event in 2008 to claim a seemingly "easy" victory. Perhaps the overall impression of the first pro bodybuilding contest of the year won't necessarily set the tone for the rest of 2009 IFBB Pro League contest season.
