The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel reigned supreme at the first edition of the IFBB Mr. Europe Pro Bodybuilding Championships held in Madrid, Spain. Rockel came to the stage at 5'6" and 225 lbs. of solid muscle. His shape and balance garnered 1st place in a lineup of 21 contestants. IFBB Pro Dennis James, at 5'8" and 240 lbs., brought a massive form that the judges gave the 2nd place spot. Gigantic IFBB Pro Francisco "Paco" Bautista placed 3rd. The 5'8", 250-pound Spain native ended his routine to loud applause.

The remaining field: IFBB Pro Robert Piotrkowicz (4th), IFBB Pro Alfonso Del Rio (5th), IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos (6th), IFBB Pro Grigori Atoyan (7th), IFBB Pro Elvis Brown (8th), IFBB Pro Sergey Shelestov (9th), IFBB Pro Manolis Karamanlakis (10th), IFBB Pro Marc Lavoie (11th), IFBB Pro Gian Enrico Pica (12th), IFBB Pro Alexandre Nataf (13th), IFBB Pro Vladimir Agrinskiy (14th), making his pro debut IFBB Pro Jaime Atienza (15th), IFBB Pro Cvetko Stojmenovski (16th), IFBB Pro Oliver Adzievski (18th), IFBB Pro Francisco Javier Mula (19th), IFBB Pro Dainius Barzinskas (20th), IFBB Pro Dragan Paunovic (21st).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top-3 placing IFBB Pro League athletes earn qualifications to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in September to challenge reigning 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler in Las Vegas, Nevada. IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel was the clear winner and he needed the victory at the Mr. Europe Pro, which was the last chance to score tickets to Vegas as the final Olympia-qualifying Open Division competition of the 2010 IFBB Pro League contest season.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: The 2009 Mr. Olympia 7th place finisher, Ronny Rockel has a great physique -- one that, unfortunately, gets overlooked with the hubbub going on at the very top of the Olympia-contender pack. It seems he's trying his darnedest to get there, too, but athletes like IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Branch Warren and IFBB Pro Victor Martinez block that path. Fellow German IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf is also clmbing the ranks. Rockel placed 6th at the Arnold Sports Festival's 2010 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships, jumping from a 10th place finish at the 2009 Arnold Classic. Rockel is likely hoping that a similar 4-rung leap in placings occurs at the Olympia next week.
