ANDREW OYE'S IFBB PRO CONTEST REPORT: IFBB PRO ROELLY WINKLAAR EARNS FIRST IFBB PRO LEAGUE WIN AT NEW YORK PRO BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar pulled off a victory in the Open Division at the IFBB New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships. At 5'7" and 247 lbs., Winklaar displayed a complete physique, bringing just the right balance of mass and conditioning to the stage to snatch the 1st place spot. At 5'5" and 220 lbs., 2010 Orlando Pro Show of Champions winner IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi, similar in structure but unequal in aesthetics to Winklaar, took 2nd place. Most pre-contest buzz predicted a potential battle for 1st place between the towers of power -- 6'0", 250-pound IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and 6'2", 290-pound IFBB Pro Toney Freeman -- who finished 3rd and 4th, respectively. The "calf monster" with outrageous leg development, IFBB Pro Erik Fankhouser landed in 5th place.

The remaining field: Russian IFBB Pro Evgeny Mishin (6th), Canadian IFBB Pro Ben Pakulski (7th), powerlifter/IFBB Pro Johnnie Jackson (8th), South African IFBB Pro Marius Dohne (9th), making pro debut after earning IFBB Pro card at 2009 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships -- American IFBB Pro Jeff Long (10th), Russian IFBB Pro Sergey Shelestov (11th), Italian IFBB Pro Daniele Seccarecci (12th), former football player making pro debut Canadian IFBB Pro Mike Van Wyck (13th), Venezuelan IFBB Pro Manuel Romero (14th), and Venezuelan IFBB Pro Cesar Mendible (15th).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top-3 placing IFBB Pro League athletes qualify to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in September to challenge reigning 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler in Las Vegas, Nevada. Winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 2009 Arnold Amateur IFBB/NPC International Bodybuilding Championships, Roelly Winklaar made his pro debut at the 2010 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships (7th place) and then placed well at the 2010 IFBB Australia Pro Grand Prix (3rd place). The New York Pro win marked Winklaar's first pro victory.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: With his impressive physique and the buzz he is generating as a rookie pro, Roelly Winklaar is one to watch. It's quite impressive to notch an early professional bodybuilding victory at the highly regarded and highly competitive IFBB New York Pro (formerly known as the Night of Champions). Past champions include: 8-time Mr. Olympia winners IFBB Pro Lee Haney and IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, 4-time Arnold Classic Champ IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, 2-time Arnold Classic Champ IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, as well as IFBB Pro Robby Robinson, IFBB Pro Albert Beckles, IFBB Pro Lee Labrada, IFBB Pro Phil Hill, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, IFBB Pro Mohammed Benaziza, IFBB Pro Porter Cottrell, IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier, IFBB Pro Paul Dillet, IFBB Pro Orville Burke, IFBB Pro Markus Ruhl, IFBB Pro Darrem Charles, IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier, IFBB Pro Melvin Anthony, IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Evan Centopani, and IFBB Pro Gary Strydom (champion of WWE CEO Vince McMahon's former WBF World Bodybuilding Federation -- for which Hall of Famer IFBB Pro Tom Platz was Talent Director).
