The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Mamdouh Elssbiay, a.k.a. "Big Ramy," rose to the top of the heap, winning 1st place in the Open Division at the 2013 New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships, held at the Tribeca Performing Arts Theater. IFBB Pro Victor Martinez (winner of the 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Europe Bodybuilding Championships) was the 2nd place finisher. IFBB Juan Morel took 3rd place, while IFBB Pro Jonathan Delarosa finished in 4th place, trailed by 5th place finisher IFBB Pro Clarence DeVis. The 2012 NY Pro Champion IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan landed in 12th place.
The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System applies to eligibility to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (September 26-29) in Las Vegas to face reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath. The New York Pro is a Tier 3 contest, i.e., one of few to award more points per placing than Tier 4 contests: (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 5 Points, 3rd - 4 Points, 4th - 3 Points, 5th - 2 Points).
Andrew Oye's Verdict: It's rare for rookie IFBB Pro League athletes to win their debut professional contests, but "Big Ramy" Mamdouh Elssbiay (2012 IFBB Amateur Olympia winner) managed to overtake frontrunners like McMillan and Martinez in New York with the kind of super-massive physique favored on the east coast bodybuilding circuit. The New York Pro, formerly known as the Night of Champions, has been won by Mr. Olympia winners IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates and IFBB Pro Phil Heath, Masters Olympia winner IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, as well as Arnold Classic winners IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone and IFBB Pro Branch Warren; in addition to IFBB Pro Lee Labrada, IFBB Pro Darrem Charles, IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Mohammed Benaziza, IFBB Pro Porter Cottrell, IFBB Pro Evan Centopani, IFBB Pro Roelly Wnklaar
and IFBB Pro Gary Strydom (champion of WWE CEO Vince McMahon's former WBF World Bodybuilding Federation, which had Hall of Fame IFBB Pro Tom Platz as Talent Director).
