The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, the 2009 IFBB New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships crowned a repeat-winner. In the 202 Division, IFBB Pro Kevin English used grainy conditioning to win 1st place -- a familiar position for the winner of this same division at last year's NY Pro. IFBB Pro Mark Dugdale landed in 2nd place and rocked impressive intercostals and obliques when flexed. Despite his notable symmetry, the supposed King of the 202, IFBB Pro David Henry, landed in 3rd place. IFBB Pro Eduardo Correa took 4th place, followed by IFBB Pro Jason Arntz in 5th place.

The remaining field: IFBB Pro Fakhri Mubarak (6th), IFBB Pro Vinny Galanti (7th), IFBB Pro Jose Raymond (8th), IFBB Pro Vincent Liu (9th), IFBB Pro Gilles Bellehumeur (10th).

The "So What?": Kevin English earned his IFBB Pro card by winning the Middleweight Class at the 1998 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships (where Jason Arntz won the Overall title). In 2008, Kevin English took his New York Pro victory over a lineup that included IFBB Pro David Henry (2nd), IFBB Pro Charles Dixon (5th) and IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson (9th). As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top 3 IFBB Pro League athletes in New York qualify to compete at in the Olympia 202 Showdown at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas to face reigning champion IFBB Pro David Henry.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: So, last year, Kevin English defeats David Henry in New York, but Henry goes on to defeat English at the Olympia in Las Vegas. English pulled double-duty and also took on Open Division competitors IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Dennis Wolf and Mr. Olympia winner IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, only to finish in 16th place-- below Henry in 15th place. Will that pattern of overtaking repeat this year, or will English carry his momentum into the Olympia Showdown (especially with that division as his sole focus)? It's worth noting that, at the 2008 Arnold Sports Festival, David Henry took on Open Class competitors IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Gustavo Badell, IFBB Pro Toney Freeman and IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Champion Dexter Jackson, and landed in 12th place.
