IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Branch Warren brought home a win from the 2012 Australian Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding Championships in Melbourne. Greek-born, Australia-based IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos garnered 2nd place. IFBB Pro Omar Deckard grabbed the 3rd place position. Some of the remaining field: IFBB Pro Darryn Onekawa (4th), IFBB Pro Luke Timms (5th), IFBB Pro Lionel Brown (6th), IFBB Pro Abraham Elzaibak (7th) and IFBB Pro Varinder Singh Ghuman (8th).
The "So What?":
As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System: (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 4 Points, 3rd - 3 Points, 4th - 2 Points, 5th - 1 Point) applies to IFBB Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete at Joe's Weider's Olympia in Las Vegas against reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath. Luke Timms took home the Australian Pro Grand Prix "Luke Wood Memorial Award" (named for Australia's highest-placing pro bodybuilder, the late IFBB Pro Luke Wood). Abraham Elzaibak was a late entrant who took 7th place. Last year's Australian Grand Prix champion IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf did not compete. For the second time this year, Branch Warren qualifies to compete at the 2012 Olympia Weekend (September 29).
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Just two weeks ago, Branch Warren won his second consecutive title at the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Columbus, Ohio, so he was heavily favored to win in Melbourne. Mike Kefalianos posed a bit of a challenge to the pre-show favorite from Texas, a.k.a. "Quadrasaurus," who (like "Quadfather" IFBB Pro Tom Platz and "Quadzilla" IFBB Pro Paul DeMayo before him) is known for powerful quadriceps muscles. While Aussie-resident Kefalianos (originally from Greece) didn't nab a win in his backyard, he earned 4 points in the newly implemented IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System.
