The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Competitors List, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Promoters of the Chicago Pro just posted the list of IFBB Pro League athletes that will compete at the 2012 IFBB Chicago Pro Bodybuilding Championships in Illinois (July 7).

212 Class Competitors:

IFBB Pro Ahmad Ahmad
IFBB Pro Steve Burke
IFBB Pro Jimmy Canyon
IFBB Pro Jamal Elmadawy
IFBB Pro Derik Farnsworth
IFBB Pro Hennie Kotze
IFBB Pro Antonio Morales Vidal
IFBB Pro Bola Ojex
IFBB Pro Panexce Pierre
IFBB Pro Roxio Tapia

The "So What?": Per sources, this is Chicago's first professional bodybuilding contest in about 18 years, the last being the 1994 Chicago Pro Invitational (won by IFBB Hall of Fame inductee and retired IFBB Pro Mike Francois, winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 1995 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships, where he defeated IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB Pro Charles Clairmonte, IFBB Pro Andreas Munzer and IFBB Pro Lee Labrada). This is the sixth 212 Division contest so far this season, leaving only three more opportunities for athletes who weigh 212 lbs. and under to qualify for Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (whereas the Open Division has four more contests before "The O."). [On a side note, the contest's website lists IFBB Pro Alexandre Nataf as a 212 contestant; however, the League's official roster lists him among the Open Division competitors.]

Andrew Oye's Verdict: All competitors are seeking IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series points. It looks like Derik Farnsworth, who, as reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," has recently spent much of his time in powerlifting endeavors, has turned his focus back to physique competition. Despite being one of the shortest pros on the IFBB Pro League contest circuit, at a mighty 5'2", he could present a challenge to the rest of the lineup in Chicago. Farnsworth earned his IFBB Pro card at the 2002 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, along with Open-Division IFBB Pro Toney Freeman and 2008 Olympia 202 Showdown winner IFBB Pro David Henry.
