Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Just Announced: Over the weekend, Anthony Bailes won the Heavyweight Class and Overall title at the 2012 UKBFF UK British Bodybuilding Championships in Manchester, England, besting other Class winners (Darren 'Daz' Ball, Ricardo Correia, Alex Bardachou and Joel Wright) and earning an IFBB Pro card and qualification to compete in the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness and its IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series.
The "So What?":
A 35-year-old gym owner in Hetton near Sunderland, new IFBB Pro Anth Bailes had also won the 2012 Mr. Britain title in June, followed by a victory at the 2012 NABBA World Championships, supposedly the first UK athlete to claim the Mr. World title awarded by the National Bodybuilders' Association (the federation in which IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger competed and won Mr. Universe titles). IFBB Pro Cecil Croasdaile won the 2011 UKBFF Championships Overall title in 2011. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the 2012 IFBB British Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding Championships, held on the same stage as the 2012 British National Championships, was won by Open Division IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden (winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 2012 Arnold Classic Europe) and 212 Division IFBB Pro Flex Lewis.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Props to the perseverance of Anth Bailes, who was diagnosed with type-one diabetes in 2007, yet maintains his intense training routine and strict diet to help manage the condition while building his physique. Bailes lists fellow UK bodybuilder and 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates among his inspirations, stating, "[Yates] was known for his brutal intensity and work ethic. I still find Dorian motivating today."
