The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, new IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan won the Overall title at the
NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, a.k.a.
"The Battle at the Beach"
in Hollywood, FL. McMillan's size and shape were dominant factors in
his victory. A tapered waist accented by 255-pounds of full muscle on a
6'1" frame won the Super-Heavyweight Class, as well as a spot in the
sport's professional ranks. In addition to McMillan, the top athletes
in each weight class were issued new IFBB Pro cards.
New IFBB Pro Jeff Long took the Heavyweight Class with big, ripped wheels
that outshone the other class favorite. Celebrating his 25th
birthday, new IFBB Pro Seth Feroce burst onto the competitive
scene this year to win pro status as a Light-Heavyweight in his debut on the national stage. A
sharply diced, new IFBB Pro Nathan D. won the Middleweight Class and continued
the trend of the weekend: "wheels win shows." Hawaii's Shavis Higa
topped the Welterweight Class, again, on the strength of superb leg
development. A set of popping quads drove Joe Vu's lean mass to the top
of the Lightweight Class. The Bantamweight Class was won by the notable
shape of Bleu Taylor.
The "So What?":
The NPC Nationals keeps growing bigger than the muscles on stage,
beating its competitor record from last year when 520 athletes showed
up to do battle on the beach. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," winners at the national-level pro qualifiers are the next generation of IFBB Pro League athletes that hope to make it to the stages of the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic and Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend -- following the path of past winners like 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, retired IFBB Pro Aaron Maddron, IFBB Pro Paul Demayo, IFBB Pro Gary Strydom and IFBB Pro Troy Zuccolotto (the latter two went
on to compete in WWE's Vince McMahon's WBF World Bodybuilding
Federation).
Andrew Oye's Verdict: With modern-day mass but the lines and moves of a classic bodybuilder, Cedric McMillan has a physique reminiscent of 4-time Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler and IFBB Pro Toney
Freeman -- potential beyond potential. I met McMillan a few years ago at
an SNBF contest in Atlanta. It's cool to see the guy, who had paced
nervously backstage at his second bodybuilding show, has now turned
into a confident champion of the stage.
