The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Over the weekend, the 2010 NPC Masters National Bodybuilding Championships awarded a new set of athletes with IFBB Pro cards. Leading the pack in Pittsburgh was new IFBB Pro Jerome Ferguson, winner of the Super-Heavyweight Class and the Overall 40+ title. Also earning pro status were class/age-group winners IFBB Pro David Watson (Masters Heavyweight 40+), IFBB Pro Randy Reittinger (Masters Super-Heavyweight 50+) and IFBB Pro Robert Basset (Masters Middleweight 60+)

The "So What?": Jerome  Ferguson is a personal trainer in Los Angeles, as well as an actor and licensed aviator. The 5'10", 265-pounder is celebrating a blessed summer -- getting married earlier this month and finally turning pro after a decade of grinding on the competitive amateur bodybuilding circuit. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," previous winners of the Masters National Bodybuilding Championships include 2009 Champ IFBB Pro Stan Efferding, a powerlifter; 2008 Champ IFBB Pro Vinny Galanti; 2007 Champ IFBB Pro Andy Haman, a former collegiate wrestler; and 2005 Champ IFBB Pro Chuck Sanow, a Chicago Fireman and NPC Illinois Chairman.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: The accomplishment is impressive; yet, the sport is still waiting for an athlete who wins the Masters Nationals to make a noticeable dent in the IFBB Pro rankings, particularly at top-tier events like the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships or Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend Mr. Olympia Championships -- where some mature athletes like 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Toney Freeman and IFBB Pro Troy Alves go bicep-to-bicep against younger pros like IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar. In other words, it's possible.
