The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, Lee Banks took top honors at the 2010 IFBB North American Bodybuilding and Figure Championships in Cleveland, OH. The Open Division's overall battle pit Heavyweight Class Winner Banks against the other class winners: Abbas Khatami (Super-Heavyweight), Parenthesis Devers (Light-Heavyweight), Alan Bailey (Middleweight), Kent Bierly (Welterweight), Sergio Moya-Alanis (Lightweight) and Asuncion Alcocer-Lopez (Bantamweight). Banks earned an IFBB Pro card, along with Khatami and Overall 40+ Masters Winner Devers.

The "So What?": Lee Banks was highly favored going into the competition. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Banks had come close to earning IFBB Pro status several times -- by placing 2nd in the Heavyweight Classes at the 2009 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships (where IFBB Pro Jeff Long won the Class and IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan won the Overall); the 2009 NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships (where IFBB Pro Mark Alvisi won the Class and Overall); and the 2008 IFBB North American Championships (where IFBB Pro Marc Lavoie won the Class and Overall). The victory of new IFBB Pro Lee Banks continues the streak of Heavyweight Class winners claiming the North American Overall title for four years in a row (including, IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden in 2009, Lavoie in 2008, and IFBB Pro Erik Fankhouser in 2007).

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Lee Banks' impressive shape and structure make him one to watch as he makes his way into the professional ranks of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness. It's likely that his goals are to make it to bodybuilding's most prestigious stages -- the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships (previously won by IFBB Pro Mike Ashley, IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor and IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler) and the Mr. Olympia Championships (won by IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Franco Columbu, IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates and IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman). Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend -- the "Super Bowl of Bodybuilding" -- is two weeks away, when 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler defends the title, fending off IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Prp Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and more.
