The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, Darron Glenn won the Light-Heavyweight Class and the title of Overall Mr. USA at the 2012 NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, Glenn earned his IFBB Pro card. Other class winners earning qualification for pro status in the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness: Super-Heavyweight Class winner Stephen Frazier, Heavyweight Class winner Aaron Clark, Middleweight Class winner Scott Turner, Welterweight Class winner John Dewey, Lightweight Class winner Patrick Harrington, and Bantamweight Class winner Alden Gamet.

The "So What?": A father and fitness trainer from North Carolina, new IFBB Pro Darron Glenn had last competed and took 3rd place in the Light-Heavyweight Class at the 2011 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships (won by IFBB Pro Todd Jewell) prior to his win in Las Vegas. Before that, he had placed 2nd in the Light-Heavyweight Class at the 2011 NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships (won by IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo). As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the National Physique Committee increased the amount of IFBB Pro League cards awarded in the Men's Bodybuilding Division to four cards in 2010 (when the Overall title was won by IFBB Pro Jason Huh). In 2012, the NPC issued pro cards in all weight classes, resulting in seven new professional bodybuilders.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Props to Light-Heavyweight Darron Glenn for taking the Overall USA title, after a string of Super-Heavyweight and Heavyweight Overall winners since 2004, when Light-Heavyweight IFBB Pro Mark Dugdale took top honors. Congrats to recipients of the 53 total IFBB Pro Cards available for more than 900 competitors across all the various divisions (Women's and Men's Bodybuilding, Women's and Men's Physique, and Women's Figure and Bikini). Now these IFBB Pro League athletes can set their sights on pro titles via the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series that includes the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships and culminates with Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend.
