The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Essa Obaid from UAE won 1st
place at the inaugural IFBB Asian Pro Bodybuilding Championships in
Zhengzhou, China. German IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel was named the 2nd place
runner-up. IFBB Pro Dalibor Hajek from the Czech Republic took 3rd
place. Hungary's IFBB Pro Daniel Toth landed in 4th place. IFBB Pro
Christopher Wong took the 5th place spot in the lineup.
The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia
Qualification Series Point System (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 5
Points, 3rd - 4 Points, 4th - 3 Points, 5th - 2 Points) applies to IFBB
Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia
Weekend to challenge reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath. The Asian
Pro Championships, the first IFBB-sanctioned professional bodybuilding
contest staged in China, is a Tier 3 contest, i.e., one of few to award
more points per placing than Tier 4 contests. Locals were proud to
witness 47-year-old Christopher Wong, a Canadian resident of Chinese
descent, make his pro debut since earning his IFBB Pro card by winning
the Masters Overall title at the 2013 CBBF Canadian National
Bodybuilding Championships.
The Asian Pro Championships was only
the second contest in which Essa Obaid has competed in 2014, after
placing 2nd at the Golden State Grand Prix in California (won by IFBB
Pro William Bonac). Obaid accepted his IFBB Pro card after winning the 2010
Arnold Amateur Bodybuilding Championships. This earned him an invitation
to the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger
Classic Bodybuilding Championships, where he placed 13th behind winner
IFBB Pro Branch Warren.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Speaking of pro cards and pro debuts, more potential is on the way from
the U.K. -- home of legendary 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates.
New IFBB Pro Nathan De Asha (Nathan Sylvester, a.k.a. "The Prophecy")
won the Heavyweight Class and Overall title at the 2014 UKBFF British
National Bodybuilding Championships, at the Royal Concert Hall in
Nottingham (October 12), where his buddy IFBB Pro Ricardo Correia (last
year's British Nationals winner) was on hand to support. With promising
physique aesthetics and a 27-inch waist, 28-year-old Nathan Sylvester De
Asha was initially set to compete in the Super-Heavyweight Class but he
dropped from 104 kg to 99.9 kg in the 24 hours prior to the contest
weigh-in. He qualified for IFBB Pro status by surpassing the other Class
winners -- James Hollingshead, Dean Lesiak, James Watts, and Gordon
Singh. The persistent athlete from Liverpool, United Kingdom, completed
the 26.2-mile London Marathon in May to raise money for charity.
