The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made
recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and
fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes
Roundup includes past Mr. USA titleholders, as well as past and present
Olympia titleholders.
The "So What?": Over the weekend, a bunch of pros attended the NPC USA Bodybuilding
Championships in Las Vegas. Ms. Figure Olympia IFBB Pro Nicole Wilkins
presented awards to winning athletes. Also spotted: Ms. Fitness Olympia
IFBB Pro Adela Garcia, IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi, IFBB Pro Shawn Ray,
IFBB Pro Brian Yersky, and Olympia Physique Showdown Champion IFBB Pro
Mark Anthony Wingson. IFBB Athletes Rep IFBB Pro Bob Cicherillo (2000
Mr. USA Champion) emceed the contest. Several other past champs were in
the house: 4-time winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold
Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler
(1992 Mr. USA Champion), IFBB Pro Dennis James (1998 Mr. USA Champion),
IFBB Pro Chris Cormier (1993 Mr. USA Champion), and IFBB Pro Dennis
Newman (1994 Mr. USA Champion), who compared returning to the contest to
the feeling a football player experienced when returning to the
familiar smell of the grass on the field.
Following a
gym-training session with IFBB Pro Cory Mathews in Texas this past week,
8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman made an autograph-signing
appearance at a sports-nutrition shop in Fishers, Indiana. Husband and
wife team, Fitness IFBB Pro Trish Warren performed a fitness routine and
IFBB Pro Branch Warren guest-posed at the NPC Battle on the Bay
Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas, promoted by Figure IFBB Pro
Bernadette Galvan. While 8-time Ms. Olympia IFBB Pro Lenda Murray hosted
her 10th Annual NPC Lenda Murray Championships in Portsmouth, Virginia,
IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson performed at the NPC Rocket City Classic and
Fit Expo in Huntsville, Alabama. A week prior, IFBB Pro Guy Cisternino
and IFBB Pro Kevin English guest-posed at the NPC New Jersey Tri-State
Championships; Nicole Wilkins hosted the Nicole Wilkins Classic in
Michigan; and IFBB Pro Max Charles guest-posed at the NPC Mississippi
State Championships.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
One of two final IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series contests before
Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend is the IFBB Golden State Pro Bodybuilding
Championships in Sacramento, California (August 2). Among those on the
competitors list: IFBB Pro Toney Freeman, Powerlifter and IFBB Pro
Johnnie Jackson, and IFBB Pro Manuel Lomeli.
