The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made
recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and
fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes
Roundup includes a fitness "power couple," a couple of powerlifters,
and rising bodybuilders who are pro-card winners and pro-card seekers.
The "So What?": Over the weekend, 2-time Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Branch Warren
and his wife Fitness IFBB Pro Trish Warren teamed as guest performers at
the NPC Battle at the River Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee,
where IFBB Pro Dallas McCarver was spotted. (Due to travel arrangements, Warren had to reschedule a separate in-gym autograph signing in
Kentucky.) IFBB Pro Jose Raymond guest-posed at the NPC Gold's Classic
and Eastern U.S. All Military Forces Bodybuilding Championships in
Wilmington, NC. Four-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler made a stop at the grand opening of a sports nutrition shop in Westminster, Colorado.
Among the crowd at the NPC Junior National
Bodybuilding Championships in Chicago, Illinois, were 2008 Mr. Olympia
IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, contest emcee IFBB Pro Bob Cicherillo, and IFBB
Pro Justin Compton with his inhuman arms, while IFBB Pro Brian Yersky
assisted with award presentations to the competing athletes. Heavyweight
Class and Overall winner Dorian Haywood had a good showing but,
unfortunately, no IFBB Pro card is awarded in the bodybuilding division
at Jr. Nationals, so he's heading directly to the USA Championships in a
few weeks.
On the other hand, new IFBB Pro Iain Valliere just
earned pro status by winning the Overall title at the IFBB Amateur
Olympia Latin America in Mexico. From Ottawa, Canada, Valliere is a
fitness trainer who was involved in competitive sports, football and
track-and-field, while in school. Speaking of schooling, fans got
knowledge from pros at other events. An IFBB World's Strongest
Bodybuilder contestant and record-holding powerlifter, the "Rhino" IFBB
Pro Stan Efferding hosted an instructional clinic on aspects of
bodybuilding, powerlifting and entrepreneurship at a gym in Peakskill,
New York. With booking assistance from local IFBB Pro Benjamin Parra,
IFBB Pro Dennis James hosted seminars in Guadalajara and Mexico City.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Though he qualified (via the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series, by
winning the Europa Show of Champions IFBB Orlando Pro Bodybuilding
Championships) to challenge reigning 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil
Heath in Las Vegas, the word is that young Justin Compton might opt to
skip Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in September and set his sights on the
next year's Arnold Sports Festival IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger
Classic Bodybuilding Championships. If Compton chooses to skip the
Olympia, he'll miss competing at the grand 50th anniversary edition of
the prestigious event; however, it has proven to be wise move by some
other rookies in the past to patiently bypass the first Mr. Olympia
contest for which they are eligible for the sake of readiness.
