The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Legends Update, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes Olympia stars, commercial stars, and a "quad star."
The "So What?": Over the weekend, while the literal "bulk" of massive top IFBB Pros (Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson IFBB Pro Mamdouh Elssbiay, a.k.a. "Big Ramy," IFBB Pro Branch Warren, and IFBB Pro Victor Martinez) were guest-posing in Pittsburgh, other pros were flexing elsewhere in the nation and abroad. IFBB Pro Tom Platz hosted a fitness, nutrition, and bodybuilding seminar in Wyoming, Michigan, with his wife who is a doctor. At the event, Dr. Cha Platz addressed healthy weight loss, healing the body and preventing injury. Meanwhile, the 58-year-old known as the "Quadfather" (a precursor to "Quadrasaurus" and "Quadzilla") discussed bodybuilding and, probably most important to lifters in attendance, how he grew his legendary legs.

While fellow Olympians were in Pittsburgh, 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman hosted the NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic in Mesquite, Texas. IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar was the featured guest-poser and signed autographs at the inaugural IFBB Mozolani Pro Classic in Zilina, Slovakia. IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson guest-posed at the NPC Big Sky Championships in Montana. IFBB Pro Ed Nunn and IFBB Pro Kevin Jordan took the stage at the NPC Muscle City Classic in Detroit, Michigan. In business news: 5-time Masters Olympia Champion IFBB Pro Vince Taylor introduced his new training system utilizing cable resistance and exercise bands with a focus on the grip used to isolate contraction. IFBB Pro Brandon Curry stars in a newly released national commercial for a popular candy brand. Also appearing in the clip are IFBB Pro Marco Rivera and IFBB Pro Amit Sapir, a 2-time Olympic Weightlifting champion of Israel.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: I'm impressed by the acting performance of Brandon Curry, who won the Arnold Sports Festival's inaugural IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Brasil. (IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo won the 2014 edition a week ago, earning an IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series spot at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend.) And like others, I've always been impressed by the quadriceps and calf development of Tom Platz, also nicknamed "The Golden Eagle," a powerlifter whose bodybuilding career includes the 1975 AAU Mr. Michigan title; Middleweight and Overall winner at the 1978 IFBB Mr. Universe (where IFBB Pro Mike Mentzer won the Heavyweight Class); and 3rd place Runner-Up at the 1981 Mr. Olympia (won by IFBB Pro Franco Columbu). Platz is a former Talent Development Director for WWE CEO Vince McMahon's short-lived WBF World Bodybuilding Federation (of which IFBB Pro Gary Strydom was the champion in 1991-1992). Actually, that type of outrageous sports-entertainment personality Curry delivers in the new commercial is what I'm seeking for some of my TV/movie projects. We'll see who can deliver it.
