The Item: Legends Update, Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes pro bodybuilders who survive the tough blocks of New York and the tough stages of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, as well as some IFBB Professional League champions mixing with amateur competitors at National Physique Committee NPC contests.

The "So What?": Over the weekend, a 3-time winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships and 4-time Mr. Olympia, IFBB Pro Jay Cutler received the first Lifetime Achievement Award at the NPC West Coast Classic Championships in Monterey Park, California. Record-holding 8-time Ms. Fitness Olympia IFBB Pro Adela Garcia hosted the NPC Adela Garcia Championships in Austin, Texas, where she also gave the crowd an intermission fitness-routine performance.

A crew of old-school bodybuilders participated in a "Legends Seminar," including IFBB Hall of Fame 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney, 4-time Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, 1989 Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari, 1991 Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, and 1993 NPC Mr. USA, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier. The workshop offering demos and tips on training, nutrition and competing was held in conjunction with the NPC San Jose Championships at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California. Seminar attendees also had a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the 51st Annual Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (a.k.a. the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding").

Fresh off a recent win at the Europa Dallas Pro Bodybuilding Championships, IFBB Pro Fred Smalls hosted a posing seminar in Uxbridge, London. Smalls also guest-posed at the UKBFF ZKK Classic Championships hosted by IFBB Pro Zack Khan (a.k.a. "Zack 'King' Khan") in St. Albans, United Kingdom. IFBB Pro Tim McGuire (who earned his IFBB Pro card by winning the Masters 50+ Heavyweight Class at the 2013 NPC Masters National Bodybuilding Championships) guest-posed at the NPC Northern Indiana Bodybuilding Championships in South Bend. IFBB Pro Jojo Nitiforo was spotted at the NPC Mid USA/New Mexico State Championships in Albuquerque.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: There is an interesting observation about two East Coast bodybuilders who are friends off the stage and who are en route to be rivals on the Olympia stage in September. Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez was the featured guest-poser at the NPC South Jersey Bodybuilding Championships in Medford, New Jersey, an event that had a last-minute venue change due to inclement weather (more a specifically, a tornado). IFBB Pro Juan Morel guest-posed at the new NPC Brew City Bodybuilding Championships in West Allis, Wisconsin.

A veteran competitor and 9-time Olympia contender who has won the 2011 Arnold Classic Europe and 2007 Arnold Classic USA, Martinez hasn't won a circuit contest yet this year but he currently sits at the very top of the points-based IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series leaderboard. A pro since 2012 and competing in his first Olympia last year, Morel qualified for the 2015 Olympia by winning the New York Pro Championships in May. These two New Yorkers have histories at the NY Pro. Martinez won the contest when it was known as the "Night of Champions" in 2003. A decade later, they both lost the NY battle to a big threat -- IFBB Pro Mamdouh Elssbiay (a.k.a. "Big Ramy") in 2013 -- with Martinez 2nd and Morel 3rd. At last year's New York Pro, in the absence of Martinez, Elssbiay left Morel in 2nd place. This year, in the absence of the Egyptian beast, the two New Yorkers battled for "Big Apple" bragging rights and the mid-level bodybuilder finally beat his more experienced buddy.

In a couple of months, the East Coast comrades head west to Las Vegas, Nevada, to challenge reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath, as well as Big Ramy, IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf, IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar, IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel (a.k.a. "The Rock"), IFBB Pro Branch Warren (a.k.a "Quadrasaurus") and the remaining contenders.
