The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes stars of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness who are either Mr. Olympia winners or strong Olympia contenders.

The "So What?": Four-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler added more clarity to the "Will he? Won't he?" debate. Some had speculated Cutler would retire from competitive bodybuilding and not vie for a fifth title against reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (a.k.a. the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding"). Yet, at last year's NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, he signed an official contract to compete at the 2013 Mr. Olympia contest in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a recent interview, Cutler says, "[My contest prep] is coming along. I had an injury in 2011 and sat out in 2012. Coming back now and trying to be a frontrunner, I'm feeling strong and starting to throw some big weights again...and doing the business of bodybuilding. That's what I do best."

Sport-watchers think Cutler (and other athletes of the ilk I call "super-massives," like "Quadrasaurus" IFBB Pro Branch Warren) might move on from the competitive stage soon due to shifts in the top tier of competitors, including the emergence of "classic aesthetics" like IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden, who leaped to 3rd place at the 2012 Mr. Olympia contest. Rhoden appeared at the recent 2013 NPC Gold Coast Muscle Classic Championships in Culver City, California, which kicked-off the National Physique Committee contest season.

Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Shawn Rhoden had a hectic 2012, including winning "Terminator" star Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2nd Annual IFBB Arnold Classic Europe in Spain, so "Flexatron" Rhoden will not compete at the upcoming 25th Anniversary of the original IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Columbus, Ohio (won by IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari) in March, where I feel fellow aesthetically inclined IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan takes Rhoden's spot as the up-and-coming athlete to watch (along with veteran frontrunners: Masters Olympia Champion IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson and IFBB Pro Toney Freeman) in this IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series contest.
