The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes news from across the globe regarding athletes entering and exiting sponsorship contracts in the "revolving door" of sports-nutrition company deals.
The "So What?": German IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel parts ways with a Germany-based company on July 1, 2011, following three years of sponsored-athlete endorsement with the brand whose roster also includes IFBB Pro Roland Cziurlok, Powerlifter Andy Elvis Dorner, Pro Wrestler Johan Fehd Karouani and World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships contender Gunnar Paasche. Just days ago, American IFBB Pro Jose Raymond signed with the large sports-supplements company whose multi-sport roster also includes IFBB Pro Victor Martinez, IFBB Pro Craig Richardson, IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson, IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos, 2-time WSM World's Strongest Man Zydrunas Savickas, 2011 Arnold Strongman Classic Winner Brian Shaw, Strongman Krzysztof Radzikowski, Pro Strongman and Pro Wrestler Jon Andersen, NFL New York Jets Football Player Mo Wilkerson, Pro-Footballer-Turned-Bodybuilder Ryan Watson, Golden Gloves Pro Boxer Thomas LaManna, APA Powerlifting Champ Jeremy Hoornstra, and NASCAR race car drivers.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Thus far, Ronny Rockel has had a commendable 2011 IFBB contest season, finishing in the Top 6 at five shows, including 6th place at the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships (won by IFBB Pro Branch Warren), 4th at the British Grand Prix (won by Warren), 1st at the Mr. Europe Grand Prix (his second consecutive victory at this event), 2nd at the FIBO Power Germany (won by IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson), and 2nd at the New York Pro. Competing (as a professional and an amateur bodybuilder) for a total of 19 years, Jose Raymond recently won the 202 Class at the New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships and had two pro contest wins in 2010 (in Hartford and Tampa).

With Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend approaching in September -- and contenders like Rockel, IFBB Pro Phil Heath and IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf clamoring for the title held by 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler -- it is rare for a top-tier competitor to be preparing for the biggest show of the year (the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding") without a sports-nutrition sponsor; however, Ronny Rockel has the kind of physique that is likely to be quickly snapped up by another company.
