The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Legends Update, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made
recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and
fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes
Roundup includes an American legend from the Golden Era, a phenom from
Egypt, and blokes from British country.
The "So What?": Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf was the featured guest-poser at
the NPC Grand Rapids Bodybuilding Championships in Michigan. IFBB Pro
Tricky Jackson performed at the NPC Suncoast Natural Bodybuilding
Championships in Tampa, Florida, while 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler
performed at his own NPC Jay Cutler Classic Bodybuilding Championships
in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts. IFBB Pro Chris Wong (2013 CBBF Canadian National Masters Champion) guest-posed at the OPA Sudbury Classic Championships in Ontario. Egyptian IFBB Pro Mamdouh
Elssbiay (a.k.a. "Big Ramy,") and IFBB Pro Dennis James teamed up for an
in-store appearance in Tempe, Arizona. IFBB Pro Don Long was spotted at
the NPC Junior USA Championships in Charleston, South Carolina.
Following last week's BodyPower UK, there's more bodybuilding news from
the United Kingdom. British IFBB Pro Zack Khan hosted a seminar and
guest-posed at the UKBFF Welsh Grand Prix Bodybuilding Championships in
Wales. Speaking of UK pros, the sports-nutrition company of 8-time Mr.
Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman added IFBB Pro Ricardo Correia (winner
of the 2013 UKBFF British Championships) to its roster of sponsored
athletes.
Reigning 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath
re-signed his media contract, extending the original multi-year deal
signed in 2005. "Phil has been a cornerstone of our athlete program and
we take great pride in his journey to becoming a great champion who
underscores the bright future of bodybuilding," says a company
representative. "His charisma, passion and commitment to excellence make
him a great global ambassador for the Mr. Olympia and the sport." A
former collegiate basketball player, Heath's resume includes a victory at
the Arnold Sports Festival's 2013 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic
Bodybuilding Championships in Europe.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
One of my favorites, legendary 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Frank Zane recently released a new
book called "Let's Grow," which covers the training methods that helped
him achieve success. The 72-year-old, who is also a musician, is known
for possessing one of the most aesthetically classic physiques in
professional bodybuilding. Zane was a master of the "vacuum" pose and
could create the illusion of a "vanishing" waistline -- or, more
accurately, an extreme concave midsection in profile, by contracting the
abdominal wall to the spine. A Pennsylvania native, former math teacher,
and holder of a Masters degree in Psychology, Zane is an IFBB Hall of
Fame inductee who held the Olympia crown from 1977-1979. As the current
IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System draws us closer to
the 2014 Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in September, Zane will likely be
part of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary Mr. Olympia
Championships (along with the other champions: IFBB Pro Franco Columbu,
IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB
Pro Dexter Jackson, etc.).
