The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes a gigantically massive German, a densely muscled Dominican, and a ripped and muscular Russian-German on the international guest-posing circuit.
The "So What?": Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf guest-posed at the Sports World Classic Bodybuilding Championship in Trinidad and Tobago. The previous weekend, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez and IFBB Pro Markus Ruhl took the stage for guest performances at the Mr. Dominican Republic Bodybuilding Championships in Santo Domingo.

Nicknamed "The Dominican Dominator," Victor Martinez essentially made a homecoming trip. He was born the Dominican Republic, earned his IFBB Pro card by wining the 2000 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, and went on to win the Arnold Sports Festival's 2007 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships. Born in Russia with German roots, raised in Germany, and now residing in the US, Dennis Wolf had been gradually climbing the professional ranks since qualifying for IFBB Pro status after winning the 2005 IFBB World Amateur Championships until the "no placing" hiccup at the 2009 Olympia. "The German Giant" Markus Ruhl, who last competed and placed 7th at the 2010 Europa SuperShow Dallas Pro Championships (won by IFBB Pro Essa Obaid), seems to be slowing down on the competition circuit but remains active on the appearance circuit with seminars and guest-posing gigs.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Victor Martinez and Dennis Wolf have qualified to compete at the 2011 Mr. Olympia Championships in Las Vegas (September 16). Both have something to prove. Wolf wants to improve upon his 5th place finish at the 2010 Olympia. Martinez, who placed 8th at the 2010 Olympia, wants to settle the score with reigning 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler from 2007, when Martinez was the 2nd place runner up for the title...that is, if he can bypass IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson and others.

Markus Ruhl's last appearance at the "Super Bowl of Bodybuilding" was a 15th place finish at the 2009 Olympia. The professional record of the 8-time Olympia contender and 3-time Arnold Classic contestant only includes two victories: the 2000 Toronto Pro Championships and the 2002 Night of Champions (the contest now known as the New York Pro and also won by athletes like 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, IFBB Pro Robby Robinson, IFBB Pro Albert Beckles, IFBB Pro Lee Labrada, IFBB Pro Mohammed Benaziza, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, IFBB Pro Porter Cottrell, IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier, IFBB Pro Melvin Anthony and IFBB Pro Gary Strydom, who went on to become champion of WWE CEO Vince McMahon's WBF World Bodybuilding Federation). While mass-monster fans can't get enough of the barn-door span of his lats and delts, and he has not officially announced retirement, I'm not sure how much gas he has left in the tank to drive for competition wins.
