The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Training Seminar, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes weight-lifting, world-traveling bodybuilders. IFBB Pro Toney Freeman, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and IFBB Pro Dennis James just returned to their respective homes from a special trip to Kuwait. The Olympia contenders spent last week touring, training, making appearances, and experiencing Middle Eastern bodybuilding culture for a magazine feature story.

The "So What?": The historically significant trip marked the first time an American bodybuilding publication visited Kuwait for an in-depth exploration of bodybuilding in the Middle East. Kuwaiti bodybuilding is promoted by Bader Boodai, an avid fan of the sport and owner of a chain of mega-gyms. "Since 2006, Bader has been bringing IFBB pro Kuwait for month-long, all-expenses-paid stays, during which time their only requirement is to bodybuild," the post-trip article states. "He goes through all of this effort so that [his gym members] can experience something Gold's [Gym] Venice members take for granted - training side-by-side with the pros."

A couple of months ago, Wolf and Freeman competed at the IFBB New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships (formerly known as the Night of Champions), placing 3rd and 4th, respectively, behind the winner, rookie IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar. James last competed at the 2010 Olympia, placing 14th between IFBB Pro Gustavo Badell and IFBB Pro Markus Ruhl.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: An industry buddy of mine recently moved to Spain and says I should visit to check it out. Hmm, maybe I'll get a month-long, all-expenses-paid trip to cover the scene there? Kidding aside, it is often noted that bodybuilding fans outside of the United States -- who have less access and opportunities to see athletes who compete in the sports most prestigious events like Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend Mr. Olympia Championships (where 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler defends the title in September) and the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships --  show more excitement and enthusiasm when special visits like this one by Freeman, Wolf and James put them face-to-face with competitive professional bodybuilders.
