The Item: Pro Interview Series, Career Updates, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: While active IFBB Pro League athletes made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events, Orlando, Florida, played host to a "Hall of Fame Roundtable" that included interviews with and insights from IFBB Hall of Fame honorees and retired professional bodybuilders IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone and IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler. Their discussion covered the gamut of topics, including training, nutrition, supplementation, rivalries, camaraderie, and the desire to win during the 1990s when they dominated the competitive bodybuilding scene within the IFBB Pro League.

The "So What?": This trio of 46-year-olds is widely regarded as the 90s-era "Uncrowned Mr. Olympias." Each has come close to collecting the sport's highest crown at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (a.k.a. the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding"). However, each man did win the second most prestigious title -- the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships -- before walking away from the competition stage.

As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the once winningest pro (with 20 IFBB Pro League contest wins), Kevin Levrone was a 2-time Arnold Classic Winner and 4-time Olympia Runner-up (competing at the "O" 12 consecutive years). Ken "Flex" Wheeler was a 4-time Arnold Classic Champion (a record that stands to date) and 3-time Olympia Runner-up (competing there 7 times). Shawn Ray won the 1991 Arnold Classic and was a 2-time Olympia Runner-up, where he competed a total of 13 times (12 consecutive years).

Andrew Oye's Verdict: It's somewhat surprising that an Olympia Sandow trophy is not on the mantel of at least one of these renowned IFBB Pro League athletes. You wonder, is there enough solace in being a "people's champ," even if you're not mentioned at the very top of history's record books?

As I noted in my MUSCLE INK Magazine Champions Series feature, while Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray and Kevin Levrone are not on the "official" list of those considered the best in their vocation, i.e., the register of actual Mr. Olympia titleholders (IFBB Pro Larry Scott, IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, and a select few others), they were rewarded in a forum created by one of those aforementioned champions to provide physique athletes who excel in their industry with additional recognition, i.e., the register of Arnold Classic Mr. International winners (IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari, IFBB Pro Mike Ashley, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez, and a select few others that also includes Coleman, Cutler and Jackson).
