The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made
recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and
fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes
Roundup includes the "Quadrasaurus" from Texas and the "Calfasaurus" residing in Tennessee (by way of Wales).
The "So What?": Over the weekend, winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships, IFBB Pro
Branch Warren was the featured guest poser at his own 2011 NPC Branch Warren
Classic Bodybuilding Championships. IFBB Pro Flex Lewis also took the
stage for a guest-posing routine at the event in Spring, Texas.
Calf-monster James "Flex" Lewis was essentially returning the favor to Quad-monster Branch Warren, who was a guest poser at the first annual NPC Flex Lewis Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Tennessee three weeks ago. Legendary 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates hosted a seminar in conjunction with Warren's event. A 5-time Olympia contender, the 2007 New York Pro Champion, and training partner of IFBB Pro Johnnie Jackson (winner of the 2009 World's Strongest Bodybuilder Powerlifting Challenge), Warren gave away Olympia tickets to Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend for a lucky, first-time attendee to witness the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding" in Las Vegas in September.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: In addition to seeing MUSCLE INK Magazine cover athlete and reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler battle Branch Warren (along with IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel), the ticket winner might actually get to see Flex Lewis take on IFBB Pro Kevin English in the 202 Olympia Showdown, an event at which the UKBFF British Champion had placed 5th in 2009 but skipped last year.
Hosting their own contests has become a popular way for retired and actively competitive IFBB Pro League athletes to show their support for the sport of bodybuilding and fitness competition. Some other pros who host (or have hosted) physique contests include: 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney, 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, 8-time Ms. Olympia IFBB Pro Lenda Murray, 4-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, 2008 Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson, Mr. World IFBB Pro Bill Grant, 4-time Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, Sacramento Pro Winner IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson, NPC National Champion IFBB Pro Jason Arntz, CBBF Canadian Champion IFBB Pro Fouad Abiad, IFBB Hall of Famers IFBB Pro Shawn Ray and IFBB Pro Mike Francois, and, of course, 7-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger.
