Career Updates, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Just Announced: IFBB Pro Mark Dugdale released his latest bodybuilding-related DVD titled "Mark is Numero 202," which chronicles Dugdale's journey to the 2009 Olympia 202 Showdown at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas (where Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler won the Open Division, and IFBB Pro Kevin English won the 202 Division, followed by Dugdale in 4th). The compilation features Dugdale's pre-contest training, new contest diet and cooking tips, as well as Olympia competition coverage.
"I actually shipped all the pre-ordered DVD's today," Dugdale informed me. He explained the new angle of his latest project. "The new DVD is more of a compilation of footage versus a story-based film, but it has a wide range of content and should have something for everyone...not to mention a portion of an interview with Dorain [Yates] that never made into [my previous DVD] 'A Week in the Dungeon.'"
The "So What?":
Mark Dugdale focuses on producing high-quality material for his fans. His previous DVD "Beyond Driven" concentrates on Dugdale's quest for Olympia qualification, balancing family life and the drive for a flawless pro physique. In "A Week in the Dungeon," Dugdale travels to Birmingham, England, to spend a week training with 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates at Temple Gym, a.k.a. The Dungeon.
"I'm currently 235 lbs. and enjoying the time off from dieting. I'm back to squatting 700 lbs. which is a ton of fun," said the 35-year-old father of three kids, who tosses iron at Gold's Gym in Kirkland, WA. "I'm planning on competing at the John Simmons 202 [Bodybuilding Championships]. I think it's one week before the Olympia in September. I did five shows in 2009 and needed a bit of a break." Dugdale's next appearance will be at the booth of his sports-nutrition sponsor at the Arnold Sports Festival Expo in Ohio (March 5-6).
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Mark Dugdale personifies dedication. Unfortunately, he and his fellow "numero 202" IFBB Pro League athletes don't yet have a division-specific contest at the Arnold Classic, where Open Division athletes like IFBB Pro Dexter
Jackson, IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Toney Freeman, IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar, IFBB Pro Melvin Anthony and IFBB Pro Ronny
Rockel will compete in the IFBB Pro Arnold
Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships. Hence, Dugdale will have to wait until his next journey to the Olympia to see if he can capture his Division's highest title -- and truly be Mr. "Numero 202."
