Career Updates, Contest Preparation, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Recently Announced: IFBB Pro Marius Dohne will skip the remainder of the 2010 IFBB Pro League contest season with the intention of hitting the pro stage in 2011 as a better version of himself. I conducted a feature interview with the rookie pro known as the "Sultan of Symmetry" for the latest edition of MUSCLE INK Magazine, where he explained the next moves in his professional bodybuilding career.
The "So What?":
Marius Dohne had a recent Top 10 finish in his pro debut at the 2010 IFBB New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships, formerly known as the Night of Champions and won in the past by IFBB Pro Robby Robinson, IFBB Pro Albert
Beckles, IFBB Pro Lee Labrada, IFBB Pro Gary Strydom (champion of WWE
CEO Vince McMahon's former WBF World Bodybuilding Federation -- for
which Hall of Famer IFBB Pro Tom Platz was Talent Director), IFBB Pro
Phil Hill, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, IFBB Pro Mohammed Benaziza, 2-time
Arnold Classic Champ IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, IFBB Pro Porter Cottrell,
IFBB Pro Mike Francois, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier, IFBB Pro Paul Dillet,
IFBB Pro Orville Burke, IFBB Pro Darrem Charles,
IFBB Pro Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Chris Cormier, IFBB Pro Melvin Anthony,
IFBB Pro Branch Warren, IFBB Pro Evan Centopani and IFBB Pro Flex
Wheeler (4-time winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships).
As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Marius Dohne earned his
IFBB Pro card by winning 1st place in the Super-Heavyweight Class and
the Overall title at the 2009 South African National Bodybuilding
Championships. Dohne had intended to compete at the upcoming IFBB Tampa Pro Bodybuilding Championships (July 17) and the IFBB Europa Battle of Champions in Hartford (July 24), in the hope of securing a 2010 Olympia qualification. Dohne changed his plans to focus on physical improvements, saying, "I have decided not to do any more shows in 2010. Instead, I'll dedicate the rest of the year to bringing up my weak areas for the 2011 pro season."
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
An Olympia qualification in an IFBB Pro League athlete's first year as a professional bodybuilder is a great coup if he can achieve it, but a wiser move is to wait until he knows he is ready to compete with the best at their best. Mr Olympia titleholders like IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger, IFBB Pro Franco Columbu, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Larry Scott and a few others have reached the pinnacle of the sport. If Marius Dohne hopes to get close to it, wisdom is a necessity.
