The Item: Career Updates, Contest Preparation, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi vows to step on stage and compete at the 2010 Olympia in Las Vegas next month. A few weeks ago, "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" reported that the ambitious Yamagishi suffered a quad injury that caused him to withdraw from the Finals of the IFBB Tampa Bay Pro Bodybuilding Championships (won by powerlifter IFBB Pro Ben White) and to miss the IFBB Europa Battle of Champions (won by IFBB Pro Ed Nunn) in Hartford, Connecticut, altogether.

The "So What?": In last week's contest-prep blog, Hidetada Yamagishi posted: "Just want to let you guys know how I recover from my right quad injury. Until a few days ago, the pain was still bad and I had swelling, but it's getting better...Yesterday, no more swelling and the pain is almost gone! I still can't bend my knee because the area which was damaged is really tight. Actually I just did an MRI and I'm still waiting for the result. It should come in a few days." Another post stated: "I am really sorry this happened and I apologize to all my fans that I could not keep my word of doing every show held in the U.S. this year..."

In this week's contest-prep blog titled "I Am Going To Do The Olympia!" Yamagishi writes: "Last week, I thought I was going to pull out from the Olympia due to this quad injury but it's getting better all of a sudden...The MRI result shows there is a big bruise inside the muscle but I have no tendon damage, which is great news. I have a feeling I will be able to be back to normal training in a few weeks!"

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Since Hidetada Yamagishi's recent withdrawals and cancellations are the first in his 17-year competitive career, it's cool to see that he is determined to not let "quitting" (i.e., cancelling) become a habit. Therefore, at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend, 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler will have one more contender to fend off, including other IFBB Pro League athletes who want the title and Sandow trophy -- 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Phil Heath (2nd place runner-up at the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships), IFBB Pro Victor Martinez (2007 Arnold Classic Champ), IFBB Pro Branch Warren (2009 Olympia 2nd place runner-up), IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and more.
