The Item: Career Updates, Contest Preparation, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Announced: IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan is preparing to make his highly anticipated debut on the professional bodybuilding stage this weekend at the 2010 Europa SuperShow in Dallas, Texas (August 14). In a speech at a guest-posing event in South Carolina last week, McMillan expressed concern over yesteryear's perception of bodybuilders as popular versus today's perception of them as "freaks" of mass. "The sport has gotten away from being attractive to everyday common people. But that's what it takes to make the sport grow," McMillan states thoughtfully.

"Physiques have gotten into something that a normal everyday person sees as so unattainable that it's not inspiring," he goes on to say. "I want to bring back what I fell in love with. I gotta win. If [other competitors] have to follow me to beat me, that's what will turn the whole sport around. My goal is to get in this game and get out after having taken it back about 15-20 years [to classic physiques] if it's possible. That's what will create our longevity."

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the 6'1", 260-pound Cedric McMillan earned his IFBB Pro card by winning the Super-Heavyweight Class and Overall title at the 2009 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships (where IFBB Pro Jeff Long and IFBB Pro Seth Feroce also earned pro status). McMillan was recently praised by first-ever NPC Nationals winner in 1982, legendary 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney, who some say paved a path that McMillan -- with his massive yet aesthetic physique -- is poised to follow. This weekend, McMillan's training and contest preparation will be put to the test at the Dallas Pro Bodybuilding Championships against other contestants like IFBB Pro Essa Obaid, IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos, IFBB Pro Grigori Atoyan, IFBB Pro Brandon Curry and IFBB Pro Manuel Lomeli.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: An active-duty staff sergeant and instructor in the U.S. Army, Cedric McMillam has his sights set on gaining qualification to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend to challenge 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler (and earn a title won by champions like IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates and IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman). While it might be early to grant the military man a Sandow trophy, I think McMillan has the ingredients to possibly earn the title one day, or perhaps a few victories at the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships -- a contest hosted by another one of his idols. Other notable pro debuts at the Europa SuperShow will include rookie IFBB Pro League athletes IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden and IFBB Pro Mark Alvisi, but McMillan is the one to watch. He's bringing musculature with classic lines, a combination displayed by the likes of IFBB Pro Serge Nubret and IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler.
