The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Sports Festival, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Victor Martinez was crowned the winner of the 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships of Europe in Madrid, Spain. Martinez overtook a close competitor in 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, who was named the 2nd place runner-up. IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel claimed the 3rd place spot. IFBB Pro Toney Freeman finished in 4th place, and IFBB Pro Flex Lewis took 5th place.
The remaining field: IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi (6th), IFBB Pro Robert Piotrkowicz (7th), IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos (8th), IFBB Pro Ed Nunn (9th), IFBB Pro Alfonso Del Rio (10th), IFBB Pro Sergey Shelestov (11th), IFBB Pro Martin Kjellstrom (12th), IFBB Pro Clarence DeVis (13th), IFBB Pro Zaher Moukahal (14th), IFBB Pro Alvin Small (15th), IFBB Pro Carlos Ruiz Asensio (16th), IFBB Pro Antonio Morales (16th), and IFBB Pro Gian Enrico Pica (16th).
The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top 3 IFBB Pro
League
athletes at the inaugural ACE
Championships earn Olympia qualifications to challenge newly crowned Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil
Heath at next year's Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas. Victor Martinez goes in the history books as the first-ever champion of the Arnold Classic Europe Pro Bodybuilding Championships. In March, at the 2011 Arnold Sports Festival's Arnold Classic Championships in North America (where IFBB Pro Branch Warren took the top spot), Victor Martinez took 3rd place, 3-time Arnold Classic Champ Dexter Jackson took 5th place and Ronny Rockel took 6th place.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Prior to his latest victory in Spain, Victor Martinez had competed at the prestigious Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, six times and won the contest in 2007. Surely, he hopes his ratio of wins climbs higher in the Euro version of Arnold Schwarzenegger's event. Since the competition has yet to incorporate a 202/212 Division contest, Flex Lewis took on the Open Division competitors and did relatively well for himself.
In addition to the contestants, others athletes spotted or making appearances at the Arnold Classic Europe Fitness Expo: legendary 2001 Arnold Classic Winner and 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman; first-ever 1989 Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari; 4-time Arnold Classic Champion IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler; 1993 Arnold Classic Runner-Up IFBB Pro Lee Labrada; 2009 Arnold Amateur Winner and IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar and his bodybuilder-brother Quincy Winklaar; Powerlifter, Wrestler and IFBB Pro Andy Haman; 4-tme Arnold Classic contender IFBB Pro Dennis James; 4-tme Arnold Classic contender IFBB Pro Gunter Schlierkamp; IFBB Pro Dan Hill; Arnold Amateur Europe competitor and Pro Wrestler Johan Fehd Karouani.
