The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Sports Festival, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo won the 2014 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Brasil Bodybuilding Championships at the Arnold Sports Festival in Rio de Janeiro. IFBB Pro Juan Morel was named the 2nd place runner-up. IFBB Pro Jon Delarosa took 3rd place. IFBB Pro Lionel Beyeke was slotted in 4th place. Slipping from his 2nd place position last year, IFBB Pro Toney Freeman landed in 5th place. The remaning field: IFBB Pro Marius Dohne (6th), IFBB Pro William Bonac (7th), IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos, slipping a single spot from last year (8th), IFBB Pro Baitollah Abbaspour, jumping a single spot from last year (9th), IFBB Pro Fred Smalls, falling from 5th in 2013  (10th), IFBB Pro Robert Piotrkowicz (11th) IFBB Pro Ed Nunn, dropping from 4th in 2013 (12th) and IFBB Pro Martin Kjellstrom (13th).
The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 5 Points, 3rd - 4 Points, 4th - 3 Points, 5th - 2 Points) applies to IFBB Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend to face reigning Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath in Las Vegas. The Arnold Classic Brasil/Brazil is a Tier 3 contest, i.e., one of few to award more points per placing than Tiers 4 contests. IFBB Pro Bethany Cisternino (wife of IFBB Pro Guy Cisternino) won the Pro Fitness Division. Setting a new world record of at 223 kg (491lbs) in the Overhead Log Press event, Zydrunas Zavickas won the strongman challenge in Brazil, becoming the first pro strength athlete to win the WSM World's Strongest Man, Arnold Strongman Classic USA, and Arnold Strongman Classic Brasil titles in a single year.

Many pro athletes appeared at the Arnold Classic Brazil Fitness Expo including: reigning 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath, 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, Masters Olympia Champion IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, 1989 Arnold Classic winner IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari, IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi, IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar, IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan, IFBB Pro Dennis James, IFBB Pro Kevin Jordan, IFBB Pro Mamdouh Elssbiay (a.k.a. "Big Ramy"), IFBB Pro Zack Khan, IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, IFBB Pro Larissa Reis, IFBB Pro India Paulino and more.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Perhaps I will subtitle all future Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Brasil reports "Uproar in Rio." Last year, at the inaugural Arnold Classic Brasil, the uproar was about the disqualification of pre-show frontrunner IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan, which opened the door to a victory for formidable IFBB Pro Brandon Curry (who did not return to defend the title this year). In 2014, the uproar was the crowning of a solid Steve Kuclo versus an improved Lionel Beyeke (and, to a lesser degree, Delarosa). Amid an eruption of reactions, some suggested that maybe the All-American firefighter was somehow "favored" over the subdued Frenchman.

Indeed, in the contest photos, Beyeke's rounded musculature had more "pop." Yet, the age-old philosophy that live, in-person experience always trumps post-contest photographic analysis does not automatically silence differing opinions. Nevertheless, Kuclo has collected his second pro-contest win and his first major-contest victory. The trained paramedic ended the weekend with a rescue attempt on his flight home to Texas, performing CPR for more than 30 minutes on a passenger, which forced an emergency landing in Costa Rica. On a side note, IFBB Pro Ben Pakulski was on the original competitors list but did not take the stage in Brazil, varying reports cite visa issues or opting to focus on the upcoming Dallas Pro Bodybuilding Championships in May.
