The Item: Career Updates, IFBB Pro Athlete Feature, Andrew Oye's Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: As 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath caps off the 2013 IFBB Pro League contest season with his third victory at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, and his first win at the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Europe at the Arnold Sports Festival in Madrid, Spain, Andrew Oye recaps the former college athlete's path to top pro-athlete status in a MUSCLE INK Magazine article titled: "Slam-Dunk Olympian: Phil Heath Bounces From Basketball Court To Olympia Stage."
The "So What?": With commentary from recent interviews on ESPN Radio and ESPN2 sports cable TV network, the bodybuilding media expert (who tracks Heath's career in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" and IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup) summarizes the feature article as: "Former B-Baller, Mr. Olympia Phil Heath's Jump Shot to King of Pro Bodybuilding's Court." Nicknamed "The Gift," the current MUSCLE INK Magazine cover athlete IFBB Pro Phil Heath discusses his physical transformation from his days as a University of Denver Varsity Division 1-A College Basketball team player from 1998-2002. "The biggest thing I didn't want to do is to be in great shape at 180 pounds, playing hoops, running 3-4 miles a day, and then turn 25, 30, 35 years old, and then lose all that. But I needed a different carrot to chase," Heath declares.

The new challenge that the Seattle-born, former point guard sought sparked his game change from team sport to physique sport, and led to dominance at the "Super Bowl of Bodybuilding," either matching, aiming to match, or aiming to surpass the records of IFBB Pro Hall of Fame athletes and past Mr. Olympia winners: IFBB Pro Lee Haney, IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, IFBB Pro Larry Scott, IFBB Pro Franco Columbu, IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva, IFBB Pro Frank Zane, IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, IFBB Pro Dorian Yates and IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: From winning his first contest, the 2003 NPC Northern Colorado Bodybuilding Championships to earning his IFBB Pro card at the 2005 NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships, followed by a victory in his IFBB Professional League debut at the 2005 IFBB Colorado Pro Show, Phil Heath is on the road to the 50th Anniversary Olympia Championships in 2014 to, once again, trample other IFBB Pro League athletes who climb to the big stage via the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series.

His buddies, NBA stars of the L.A. Clippers Chauncey Billups and Jamal Crawford, keep Heath connected to the hoops world. "I support all my friends who play in the [NBA] League. And that's just the greatest thing," Heath says. But his focus is on another league- the IFBB. Heath states he intends to "represent the sport of bodybuilding in a way that many people can relate to, while maintaining the respect the sport deserves."
