A non-essential amino acid, carnitine is similar in function to certain B vitamins in initiating cellular energy. By facilitating the transfer of fat to the mitochondria to use as fuel it may help increase exercise workload. Found in red meat and synthesized in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine, it may help increase fat metabolism, protect cells from oxidative stress and increase the exercise enhancing benefits of BCAAs.
