South East Asia whose roots contain steroidal saponins that (when properly prepared and ingested) have been reported to increase the body's testosterone levels. In a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, scientists tested the effects of oral Tongkat Ali supplementation on serum testosterone levels and sexual performance in rats. The researchers observed that treatment with 500 mg/kg/day increased sexual performance after 6 days compared to placebo controls and attributed the increase in sexual performance to an approximate 2-fold increase in serum testosterone levels.

Of note, until recently the verdict on the effectiveness of testosterone boosting herbs has been unsettled. However several reports suggest that conflicting evidence is primarily due to large differences in herbal preparation, delivery, and dose. In the current study the researchers preserved the natural pharmacological properties of the root by using an unmodified and pure Tongkat Ali root powder mixed with drinking water. Although they used a large dose in an effort to augment testosterone production, these data illustrate the need for more research investigating its efficacy in humans. For now, it seems that a high quality Tongkat Ali supplement is a safe and natural means for boosting testosterone levels and making your sex life more active.
