The Item: Contest Results
The Scoop: [Just Announced]: Over the weekend, Gustavo Badell won the Open Division at the IFBB Atlantic City Pro Bodybuilding Championships in New Jersey. The 5'8", 245-pound muscleman upped his conditioning from previous showings. Badell retained structural mass while reducing his midsection, which had been the source of much criticism. Finishing in 2nd place was Japan's Hidetada Yamagishi, who used a fluid posing style to show his signature 5'6", 220-pound thickness. Some thought Yamagishi took a spot from 3rd-place finisher Troy Alves who, at 5'8" and 220 lbs, boasts a mean V-taper on an aesthetically pleasing build.
In the 202 Division, winner James "Flex" Lewis used clearer muscle separation to edge out the 2nd-place contestant - super-thick Jose Raymond whose quads were in their own zip code. Belgium's Clarence DeVis landed in 3rd place, displaying nice leg detail in the side poses.
The "So What?": In the last chance to qualify for this year's "Muscle Super Bowl," the Top 3 finishers in each Division secured slots to compete at the 2009 Olympia Weekend in Vegas in two weeks
Andrew Oye's verdict: Enough chitchat. Let's bring on the Big "O" and crown 2009's biggest champs in a year where almost every man has a decent shot at glory.
