The Item: Contest Preparation

The Scoop: Recently reported: IFBB Pro Jason Arntz has teamed up with 6-time Mr. Olympia Dorian "The Shadow" Yates for his 2009 Olympia contest preparation. "I usually do my own dieting and contest preparation for the past 10 or 11 years," says Arntz. "Now I'm working with Dorian Yates and I'm going to take a little different approach. If you're going to learn from somebody, it might as well be the best. So we'll see what we can cook up with him this year." The 5'5", 37-year-old New Jersey muscle-builder currently sits at 220 lbs. and plans to chop it into a stage-ready package for the Olympia 202 Showdown next month. "I eat pretty good all year, so a strict diet for me is the last three or four weeks." The hungry student and his trainer turned up the dial on a strict regiment late last month.

The "So What?": Arntz placed 4th at last year's Olympia 202 Showdown, a division that has earned the privilege of being added to the main stage at Orleans Arena this year, an upgrade from its previous location at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the Olympia Expo. "I'm real happy about that," Arntz adds. "You felt like a second-class Olympian [competing at the expo]."

Andrew Oye's verdict: Can training and dieting under the guidance of a man who dominated bodybuilding from 1991 to 1997 bump up a competitor's placing? An Olympian's touch can possibly work magic, but there are no guarantees. At least Arntz has a bigger stage to try and prove it.
