The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, Anthony Bailes won the Heavyweight Class and Overall title at the 2012 UKBFF U.K. British Bodybuilding Championships, besting other Class winners: -- Darren 'Daz' Ball, Ricardo Correia, Alex Bardachou and Joel Wright- and earning Bailes an IFBB Pro card.
The "So What?": A 35-year-old gym owner in Hetton near Sunderland, new IFBB Pro Anth Bailes also won the 2012 Mr. Britain title in June, followed by a victory at the 2012 NABBA World Championships, supposedly the first U.K. athlete to claim the Mr. World title awarded by the National Bodybuilders' Association (the federation in which IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger competed and won Mr. Universe titles). IFBB Pro Cecil Croasdaile won the 2011 UKBFF Championships Overall title in 2011. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the IFBB British Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding Championships, held on the same stage that weekend, was won by IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden and IFBB Pro Flex Lewis.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Props to the perseverance of Anth Bailes, who was diagnosed with type-one diabetes in 2007, yet maintains his intense training routine and strict diet to help manage the condition. Bailes lists fellow U.K. bodybuilder and 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates among his inspirations, stating, "[Yates} was known for his brutal intensity and work ethic. I still find Dorian motivating today."
