The Item: Career Updates/Contest Preparation
The Scoop: Recently Announced: IFBB Pro Tarek Elsetouhi is getting his physique ready to compete at the IFBB Phoenix Pro Bodybuilding & Fitness Show in Mesa, Arizona (February 20). Elstehoui is receiving contest-prep advice from trainer Chris Aceto, who is also advising IFBB Pros Troy Alves and DeShaun Grimes for this year's first pro contest.
"Tarek was actually the first bodybuilder to ever stay at my home in preparation for a contest," says Aceto, who linked up with a lean, off-season Tarek at the start of his prep. "I didn't see any wisdom in dieting an already lean body for the show, so I figured it would be better to grow into the show."
The "So What?": Elsetouhi made a splash in the U.S. when he won the 2008 Arnold Amateur at 220 lbs. Now the Egyptian beast is stomping toward Arizona at a whopping 260 lbs. His impressive gains can be attributed to an obedient contest-prep work ethic. According to Aceto, "We got along from day one because he took his marching orders without deviation. Last year, he improved a whole lot but still struggled to place high."
Andrew Oye's verdict: Since Elsetouhi will be one of the most massive competitors on stage, he may surprise us all and break into the tough Top 4 for the first time in an IFBB pro show.
