Jackson, Greene and Freeman Exit Publishing Contracts

The Item:
Publishing/Magazine Contract Signings
The Scoop: Recently reported: IFBB Pros Dexter Jackson, Toney Freeman and Kai Greene have exited their respective exclusive magazine contracts with publishing companies. The word is Jackson and Freeman are no longer tied to Weider's FLEX Magazine and Greene is no longer a member of Team MD.
"Kai has left the MD family. I received his final decision in an email," writes Muscular Development Magazine publisher Steve Blechman in a farewell announcement on his site. "At the 2007 New York Pro, Kai had placed a disappointing 6th place...Kai was out of resources, and had no means to continue. I told him not to worry, that I would support him.I sent Kai a check and a publishing contract, and helped him get several supplement contracts. I have always been there for Kai. I always did what was best for him and looked out for his best interests. The rest is history."
The "So What?": The question becomes: where will these top athletes go next? In the past, former Mr. Olympia Jackson (who ironically graces the May 2010 cover of FLEX) and top Olympia-contender Freeman have been signed with MD (which recently signed Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler when his Weider contact ended). Meanwhile, reports suggest the roster changes at Weider might be preparation for the possible signing of Greene, who is currently riding a wave of career success.
Andrew Oye's verdict: With the recent, back-and-forth subtraction and addition of vets and rookies, magazine rosters are flipping faster than readers can flip the pages. However, it seems the current business structure doesn't allow for many other options.
