The Item: Career Updates, Contest Preparation
The Scoop: Recently Announced: IFBB Pro Troy Alves has decided to step onstage at the 2011 IFBB Hartford Pro Bodybuilding Championships, a.k.a. Europa Battle of Champions in Connecticut (July 30).
The "So What?": Troy Alves last competed at the 2010 Olympia, where he didn't fare extremely well, placing out of the Top 10. His last competition before that was the 2010 Hartford Pro (Europa Battle of Champions), where he finished in 2nd place behind IFBB Pro Ed Nunn. Alves was recently seen giving tips in a webinar on a site that also hosted online chats with 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, 1983 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Samir Bannout, IFBB Pro Francis Benfatto, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, IFBB Pro Toney Freeman and others.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Until recent days, the competitors list for the 2011 Hartford Pro contest had only about five names, but it's gradually growing with late entries. Troy Alves told me at the 2009 Olympia, "I see myself competing for 2-3 more years...but I want to be at a high level on the way out." Perhaps Alves, who was aiming for the Europa Supershow (August 13), saw an early opportunity to try and repeat last year's showing in Connecticut and possibly hit the Olympia again before retiring from the IFBB Pro League.
